CHAPIN - Jeanne DeHaven West (Hadden), 93, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 12, 2016. Jeanne was born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania on July 13, 1922 to Laura Marsden and James B. DeHaven. She was the youngest of four children- her siblings were older than she by a range of 14-24 years. She had many wonderful memories of growing up with such an extended family. She always said that she had “too many parents”! She was married to her first husband, Robert John Hadden, for forty-nine years until his death in 1991. They had a daughter, Robin, and a son, Bobby. Jeanne enjoyed cooking, entertaining, sewing and playing Bridge. Although she spent the majority of her time raising her family, Jeanne did have the opportunity to work outside the home-most notably as an executive secretary for the CIA in Atlanta, and the Lexington Five School District.
Jeanne was married to her second husband, Glenn Arnold West for sixteen years until his death in 2010. Cruising and taking tours were their pastime for many years. She and Glenn saw most of the cities in Europe and visited Australia and New Zealand. They also took many trips around the US, including Alaska and Hawaii.
Jeanne was predeceased by her parents, her husbands; her siblings, Robert Taylor, Twyla Buser, Helen Heid; and her nephew, Robert Armor. She is survived by her daughter, Robin Hadden Mizell (Jack) of Jacksonville, FL; her son Robert DeHaven Hadden of Columbia; her granddaughters, Katherine Mizell Evans (Chad) of Collierville, TN and Margaret McCall Mizell of Winter Park, CO; her great-grandchildren, Riley and Emery Evans; her nephew and nieces, David Armor (Joyce) of The Woodlands, TX and Lois Armor of San Antonio, TX; her great-nephew and niece, Mark Armor, Tracy Gracey and their families. Jeanne is also survived by Glenn’s four daughters, and their extended families Sheila Austrain, Pamela Kraske, Andrea West and Rebecca Sherbak (Bill).
The family wishes to extend their deepest thanks and gratitude to Jean Ann Scott- Mother’s loyal companion, competent assistant, loving caregiver, but, most of all her friend. She was truly Mother’s “Angel on Earth”. We are also grateful for the other angels on Mother’s shoulders- Anne Van Atten and Tyronda Stone.
A memorial service for Jeanne will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, April 17, 2016 at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church of which she was a founding member. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church, 735 Old Lexington Hwy, Chapin, SC 29036 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
