Junior Gray Pinnix

Junior Gray Pinnix, a beloved and cherished member of the Chapin, South Carolina community, passed away on November 24, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on June 29, 1945, in Elkin, North Carolina, Junior was known for his kind-hearted, hard-working, and sociable nature.

A graduate of James A. Gray High School in Winston Salem, North Carolina, Gray spent much of his life dedicated to his family and community. He lived in Charlotte, North Carolina for 20 years. During this time, he enjoyed coaching girls basketball and boys football, earning many awards and trophies for his commitment and skill.

In his later years, Gray was a member of the Mid Carolina Golf Course, where he spent many enjoyable hours. He had a passion for gardening and helping his wife with her artwork. Known for his sociable spirit, Gray never met a stranger and always enjoyed doing things for others. He lived happily with Marcia and Lulu in Chapin for 30 years.

Gray is survived by his wife, Marcia Murray of 29 years; step-son, Wes Murray (Michelle) and their children, Shannon Sweatt(Joe) and Savannah Murray; daughters, Nikki Pinnix, Edria Day, and Stephanie Speer(Don); son, Dan Gordan (Laura); grandchildren, Camdan Pinnix, Klancie, Katie, and Jaelyn; sister, Ann Settle; niece, Donna Randolph (Scott); and nephew, Scott Settles. Gray is also survived by his longtime friends Ronnie Patterson, Frank Brendle, Larry "Baggy" Hodges, Al Patterson, Jim Royal and Johnny Greeley. He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Standridge; brother, James Pinnix; and daughter, Crystal.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Carol Choe and all of the staff at Lexington Medical Center for their compassionate care. Gray will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, December 5, 2025 at Caughman Harman Funeral Home, Chapin Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm to 2:00pm prior to the service.
