

Ronald Wesley Nelson, 84, of Chapin, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on January 1, 2025. Born on December 4, 1940, in Union, SC, Ron was the son of the late Paul Wesley Nelson and Margaret Stroud Nelson.
A proud graduate of Newberry High School, Ron served his country in the United States Air Force for six years, with assignments that took him to Turkey and Wyoming. Following his service, he built a successful career spanning 35 years as a Territory Manager with Lennox Industries.
In 1991, Ron married the love of his life, Glenda "Dee Dee" Coffman, and they shared 33 wonderful years together. Ron had a zest for life that was reflected in his many passions. He enjoyed hiking, exploring the mountains, hunting, getting lost on backroads, and always finding his way home. He had a deep love for Clemson football, an ever-curious spirit, and never met a stranger. A cherished tradition was his visits to the Waffle House in Chapin with his beloved wife, where they formed a second family among the staff and patrons.
Ron is survived by his sons, Todd Wesley Nelson (Ginger) and Kyle Edward Nelson (Jamie), as well as his stepson, Jason Hudson (Jocelyn). He was a proud grandfather to Jacob Nelson (Blair), Rob Nelson (Amanda), Amy Smith (Daniel), Avery Nelson (Eric Dobroveanu), and Bethany Petsch (Alex), and a great-grandfather to nine great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his siblings, Linda Hendrix, Rita Hammond, and Kenny Nelson. Ron was predeceased by his daughter, Kelly Nelson, his brother, Michael Nelson, and his great-granddaughter, Madelynn Nelson.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 4:00 pm at Emmaus Church, located at 5160 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212.
Ron’s legacy is one of kindness, adventure, and love for family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
