A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, December 10 from 5:00 - 9:00 pm at Stone River in West Columbia, SC, 121 Alexander Road, West Columbia, SC 29169.
Tom was born in Toms River, NJ to Agnes (Flaherty) Sullivan and Robert Sullivan on April 15, 1970. Tom graduated from Brick High School in 1988. He married Penny (Whiting) Sullivan on August 1, 1998 in Oswego, NY. Tom worked in nuclear power for over 30 years. He spent 15 years at South Texas Project and finished his career at V. C. Summer in South Carolina.
Tom had a great love for hockey and played throughout high school. He was the goalie his junior year, 1986, when Brick won the State Championship against Delbarton.
When Tom lived in Texas, one of his favorite things to do was to play on the San Bernard River with his jet skis. Camping was also a huge hobby for Tom. He would spend days planning all the camping trips for the year, always trying to get that perfect camping site. Once we moved to SC, he swapped the river for Lake Murray. He loved taking his pontoon boat out for the day with friends and family onboard and just exploring all the coves and islands that Lake Murray had to offer.
Tom lived life to the fullest as a Warrior whose strength and courage throughout his battle with cancer was admirable. He always enjoyed being on the go and spending time with his family and friends. Tom had many friends because of his captivating personality and contagious laugh. He was an outstanding example of a human being, husband, father and friend who was always laughing, joking, and enjoying life. His greatest joy in life was being a Girl Dad. Tom created the definition of how to do life and, even though he was taken far too young, he will have a lasting impact on everyone he crossed paths with.
Tom is preceded in death by sisters, Donna Marie Sullivan and Diana Helen Sullivan of New Jersey and his father, Robert Sullivan of New Jersey. He had also lost several beloved pets over the years, Oscar, Elmo and Snickers.
Tom is survived by wife, Penny (Whiting) Sullivan of West Columbia, SC; daughters, Jenna and Taylor Sullivan of West Columbia, SC; sister, Denise (James) Conger of Unionville, VA; brother, Robert (Donna) Sullivan of Ellendale, DE; mother, Agnes (Flaherty) Sullivan of Orange, VA; nephews, Ryan (Jenna) Sullivan of Nokesville, VA, Cory (Ashlea) Sullivan of Burlington,VT; niece, Erin Conger of Cary, NC, and a great niece, Bianca Jones of Unionville, VA.
Tom would want to thank Dr. Chelsea Stillwell of Lexington Hospital and Dr. Sagar Lonial of Emory University Hospital for all their incredible care over the last 7 years. The doctors and their staff treated Tom not just like another patient, but like family. They were incredible and their care and compassion was exceptional. Tom’s willingness to endure trials will continue to help others in the multiple myeloma community.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.caughmanchapin.com for the Sullivan family.
