

Ernest James Devol of Charleston West Virginia went home to be with Jesus, his Lord and Savior on October 2, 2014. He was born in Parkersburg on July 12, 1941, the son of James and Josephine Flinn Devol. He was a graduate of Parkersburg High School class of 1959 where he played varsity football and was on the wrestling team. He received undergraduate and Masters degrees from Marshall University, serving in the military between studies. He was married to Claire Young Devol for 35 years who survives him. Mr. Devol was a teacher and football coach at George Washington High School for 28 years. He also served as President of the faculty Senate. He was a talented and enthusiastic golfer and a long time runner. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sisters Lois Ann Ligoske (Arthur) of Alexandria, Virginia and Marilyn Sue Rogers (Martin) of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. He was predeceased by a brother, Ronald Devol. Ernie was instrumental in bringing the 65 and Over Club to the Kanawha Valley to benefit area seniors. Mr. Devol and his wife are members of the Bible Center Church. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 6, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Wilson Funeral Home,420 Lee St. W., Charleston with Pastor Chad Cowan officiating. Burial will follow at Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
