

Glen Eugene Pennington, 89, of Charleston passed away on November 5, 2014, after a long illness. Glen is survived by his eternal companion Anita Arbutus Atkinson Pennington; his children, sons, Glen Eugene Pennington, Jr. of Charleston, WV, Eric Wayne Pennington of Keansburg, NJ, Warren Lee Pennington of Sissonville, WV, and Joseph Pennington of Charleston, WV; daughter Anita Lynne Pennington of Charleston, WV; 14 grandchildren: Kristen Pennington, Blake Pennington, Derek Pennington, Kaelyn Pennington, Celeste (Pennington) Johnson, Jennifer (Pennington)Reynolds, James Pennington, Lindsay Pennington, and Christopher Pennington, Michele Cash, Julie Cash King, Kelly Cash Waisath, Travis Sheets and Ashley Sheets, and 10 great-grandchildren. Glen was born September 20, 1925, in Speedway, W.Va., to the late Lotus Estell Pennington and Carrie Curtis Keatley Pennington. He was also preceded in death by his sister Mildred Craghead, one brother James Pennington. He graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in May of 1943. He was recruited by the U.S. Navy right out of high school and served as a “radar man” near the end of World War II. After serving, Glen returned to Charleston and while working for Union Carbide met Arbutus, whom he said was “the best thing to happen in my life.” They were married on May 31, 1947. Glen attended Morris Harvey College and received his B.S. degree in mathematics in January 1947. He taught at various times at Poca High School, Dunbar High School, and South Charleston High School. He obtained a master’s degree from West Virginia University. He worked for DuPont at the Belle plant for 26 years, retiring on December 1, 1982. He continued to work as a contract worker for DuPont after retiring. Glen was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the church in various capacities, including Branch President, a four-year mission with his wife in the Washington DC Temple, and was a patriarch. Funeral services will be Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 2pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 2007 McClure Pkwy, Charleston with Bishop John Leithead officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Garden of Memories, Sissonville. Visitation will be Friday 6-8pm at Wilson Funeral Home, 420 Lee St. West, Charleston.
