John Terrance McDonald

John was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Paul and Sylvia Ann Ater McDonald and sister, Sandra Kay McDonald Kerns.

John is survived by his loving wife of almost 39 years, Marcie Karen Withrow McDonald; daughters, Amy Christine Bradley, Ashleigh Elizabeth Anne McDonald and Juleigh Sylvia Joanne McDonald; brother, James P. (Ursula) McDonald Sr.; sisters, Barbara Hoover and Paula V. McDonald; brother-in-law, Timothy A. Withrow; grandchildren, Christopher D, John M. and David L. Bradley; and additional loving family members.

John was born in Parkersburg on December 17, 1945. He entered the Army National Guard in 1962 and served 8 years. He graduated Elkins High School in 1965 and was a member of Millwright Local 1079 and 1755 for 46 years. He retired from Columbia Gas Transmissions with 18 years of service. John was a former 32nd degree Mason and former member of the Beni Kedem Shrine Center. He was a volunteer hospital van driver for the Shriner Hospitals for Children.

John was an avid NASCAR fan and memorabilia collector. With lifelong friend, Rick Rector, he built and raced his own dirt track car for several years. He enjoyed exploring the Hatfield and McCoy trail on his side-by-side, with family and friends. John considered himself as "Apple Butter Connoisseur" and family and friends hosted a Celebration of Life party for John in October by making 15 gallons of apple butter under his directions.

John was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

The memorial service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 839 Chestnut Street, South Charleston, on November 30, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. with Bishop Dirk Johnson conducting. Those of all faiths are welcome and encouraged to attend. A reception will take place at the church, provided by the LDS Relief Society, following the memorial service.
