Alain Gauthier

Alain Gauthier died on November 4, 2021 in Charlotte, NC. He was born in Montreal on January 17, 1959 and moved to Quebec City at eight years of age. There he attended Ecole Secondaire Louis-Jolliet and Cégep Limoilou. He received a BS in Physics at Laval University followed by a PhD in Physics at The Ohio State University. There he met his future wife, Karina Anne Vance. Always a loyal Buckeye, he and Karina travelled to numerous away games in future years.

After one year working in Japan (and learning Japanese), Alain and Karina settled in Champaign IL, followed by the Dallas, TX area where he started a job at the Superconducting Supercollider. When this project was cancelled in 1994, the family moved to Charlotte, NC. There Alain worked at Decision Support and 15 years at Sunbelt Rentals.

Alain was the most wonderful husband and father to his two children. Together the family took many vacations to national parks, yearly beach and mountain trips, and regularly visited family in Quebec and Pittsburgh. Always insatiably curious, he was very proud of all his travels, having visited all 50 states. In just the last four years, there were seven visits to Hawaii, Venice twice, France, Yellowstone/Tetons, Arizona, and numerous trips to California. Alain truly took the best advantage of his life and loved his family very much.

He is survived by wife of 31 years, Karina Gauthier; children, Alexandre Gauthier and Katherine Gauthier; mother, Jeannine Roy (Richard Goddu); brother, Christian Gauthier (Jacinthe Sevigny); sister, Isabelle Gauthier (George Lebel); aunt, Josette Roy (Régent Dupont); and uncle, Yves Roy (Sylviane Martineau). He is predeceased by his dear grand-maman, Marie-Louise Roy.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 11, 2021 in the chapel of McEwen Myers Park, 500 Providence Road, Charlotte. A reception will follow the service.
