

A son of the late William Lee Davis and Eva Pravett Davis, Mr. Davis was born July 3, 1924 in Durham, NC and grew up in Lumberton. He served in the U.S. Navy for two years as a 3rd Class Quartermaster and was then employed for thirty years with the U.S. General Service Administration.
Mr. Davis was a member of Hawthorne Lane United Methodist Church where he served as a church host and cook for fifteen years. He was also an accomplished gardener and stained glass artist.
Surviving are Barbara Sheppard Davis, to whom he was married for almost 64 years; three sons, Joe, Tommy and Larry Davis; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild; as well as three sisters and one brother.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, William Davis; and a sister, Inez Jackson.
A service to celebrate Mr. Davis’ life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 21st at Hawthorne Lane United Methodist Church. His family will receive friends at the church following the service. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy.
