Charlotte - Dear family and friends, if you are reading this, I guess you know that I decided to head off to heaven to join my loved ones that went before me on October 18, 2018. I spent my last 4 years at Aldersgate and then as my health declined, I was told I had to move to Asbury Health Care Center, not a good time, but regardless, I have had a terrific life.
Born, June 26, 1927, I was the daughter of Harry and Alton Martin of Concord who gave me a wonderful childhood, an incredible college education, and their love and support through the years. I graduated from Winecoff High School in 1944 and was honored as the class valedictorian. Heading off to Queens College, I became a proud member of Chi Omega sorority and fostered friendships that lasted my entire life. After graduation in 1948, I became a social worker for the Mecklenburg County Welfare Department. I married the late James B. Stegall in 1951. Becoming a homemaker was my greatest joy. WE joined Westminster Presbyterian in 1958 and the church became a cornerstone of my life. I was made a life time member of the Women of The Church after my 8 year tenure as President. I loved being involved in my children’s activities as well as the philanthropic organizations that Jim and I supported. The Carolina’s Carousel was our passion for many years and the Thanksgiving Holiday was celebrated with many of our friends that shared that love with us. Jim and I enjoyed traveling, but my fondest memories are those spent with my children and grandchildren at Wild Dunes, SC.
I am survived by my two children, Harry E. Stegall (Sandra) of Myrtle Beach, SC and Lynn Suttle (Keith) of Wilmington, NC, and five grandchildren, Baxter Stegall (Brittany), James Stegall (Lauren), Kristofer Thompson (Megan), Taylor Joyner (Ben) and Cole Suttle and one great-grandson, Baxter, Jr.
So to all that knew me and loved me, thank you for being part of my incredible journey. If you want to send a memorial, consider Hospice & Palliative Care, Charlotte Region or the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 950 Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605. And a word of advice," Keep your heart in constant tune with God". Much Love, Alys (Munner)
Graveside Service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery, Concord, NC on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at 1:00 pm.
