

Born in Caldwell County, NC on September 15, 1917, she was a daughter of the late Charles Lee Turnmire and Mary Etta Cozort Turnmire. During World War II, Mrs. Cox was a First Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps and later retired from the V.A. Hospital in Kerrville, TX.
During the war, she performed as a singer and dancer for some of the troops. She was a member of the Catholic Church for many years in Texas and had attended St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church when able since she moved to Charlotte in 2000.
A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00AM, Monday, July 14th in the chapel of Providence Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Al Cadenhead officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Singing Tower Garden of Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:00AM to 11:00AM in the chapel prior to the funeral home.
Mrs. Cox is survived by a sister, Maude T. Sudderth, of Charlotte and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cox was preceded in death by her husband, Frank R. Cox, Jr.; her siblings, Jessie Wyke, Claudia Wyke, Henry S. Turnmire, Faunie Lenoir, Roxie Pearce, Ray Turnmire, Bernice Mabe and Tincey Blankenship.
