Born in Memphis, TN, she is the daughter of the late Clarence Clyde Holmes and Ethel Mae Tyus Holmes and was a graduate of Lenoir Community College, having completed her studies at the age of 65.
Her husband, James Clemmings Billings, whom she married August 17, 1942, preceded her death; as well as a brother, Walter Holmes and a sister, Dorothy Hawks.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Billings Mills and her husband, William of Kannapolis; 2 sons, James C. Billings III and his wife Kathy of Golden, CO and Richard C. Billings and his wife, Beverly of Lancaster, SC; 9 grandchildren, Stephen Armstrong of Rocky Mount, NC, Shayne Crumpton of Deep Run, NC, Elizabeth Mills and Joshua Mills of Kannapolis, NC, Richard Billings II of Huntersville, NC, Jeffrey Billings, Kevin Billings and Shannon Billings Nadfolsky of Golden, CO and Lora Ann Bartholow of Kannapolis, NC; 6 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial services are planned for 2:00 pm Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Memorial Baptist Church, 1785 Dale Earnhardt Blvd., Kannapolis, NC with Rev. Jason Barber officiating.
Graveside services are scheduled for November 11, 2019 at Pinelawn Memorial Park, Kinston, NC where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
