Betty Kirby Clary

Mrs. Clary, age 92, of Cary, died Thursday, March 3, 2016 at her home. Born April 16, 1923 in Gaffney, SC, she was the only child born to the late Walter Kirby and Clara Hill Kirby. Mrs. Clary was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church for more than 45 years. She was a founding member of the church’s senior exercise class and was the teacher for the past 10 years. She was also a former member of the Joy Club. Mrs. Clary was a homemaker. She enjoyed crocheting beautiful quilts and baby blankets. Mrs. Clary was an excellent seamstress and still “hand” made her own clothes. She also spent many summers canning vegetables from the sizable garden.

The family will receive friends 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM Monday, March 14th at Wilson Funeral & Cremation Service. The service to celebrate the life of Betty Kirby Clary, known simply as “Grammy”, will immediately follow at 1:30 PM in the funeral home chapel with Reverend John Harrill officiating. Interment will be in Sharon Memorial Park.

Survivors include two sons, Ellison Clary, Jr. and wife, Linda Gallehugh of Charlotte and Bob Clary and wife, Diane of Cary; two grandchildren, Kimberly Wood and husband, Keith and Casey Clary and wife, Amanda; and two great grandchildren, Lauren and Conner Langston. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Clary was preceded in death by her husband, Ellison Dever Clary, Sr.
