

She was born on the 1st of January, 1933, one of nine children to the late Dan Maidens and Nellie Brothers Maidens in Beech Bottom, WV. For many years, Betty worked in customer service being associated with Warehouse Food Stores, Harris-Teeter and Janelle’s Laundry Service.
Her greatest achievements was being a homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother and was known for her exceptional cooking skills – a God given talent. She loved to make holiday cookies and treats for her family and friends. Betty also made homemade pocket books to give to family and friends. By nature, Betty was a true caretaker at heart to many who were sick or who were in need.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, the 3rd of December, 2021 from the graveside at Forest Lawn West Cemetery. The staff of Forest Lawn West will be present at the gate to direct those in attendance to Courtney family section.
Betty is survived her four children: Debbie Morrison, Jimmy Pelky, Sally Pelky and John Courtney and his wife, Tina; her four grandchildren: Daniel Courtney and wife, Madison; Haley Traynham and husband, Spencer; Neely Cotton and husband, Andrew and Caleb Lambert and fiance', Emily; her two sisters: Martha O’Brinar and Shirley Amos and special neighbors and friends, Dave and Becky Turner. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Courtney and six siblings: Rob Maidens, Mary Amos, Eva Jones, Jean Bebot, Richard Maidens and Nancy Tennant.
