Betty MaMa Jean Hood Russell

She was born July 21, 1932 in Charlotte, NC to Ernest and Ala Mae Playler Hood. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years Charles Russell; her daughter, Debbie Eckel and husband Steve of King George, VA; her three sons, Donnie Russell of Concord, Danny Russell and wife Sandy of Roanoke, VA, Dale Russell of Charlotte; her four grandchildren, April Stevens and husband Alvery of Fredericksburg, VA, Christopher Eckel of Corpus Christi, TX, Jeffrey Russell and wife Rachel of Roanoke, VA, Joey Russell of Roanoke, VA; her great-grandson, Hayden Russell and her sister, Christine Horne and husband Ed of GA.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.

She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother and foster mother. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She loved beautiful flowers and taking care of her many dogs over the years. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.

The celebration of her life will take place Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at 1:00 PM in McEwen Funeral Service Derita Chapel with The Reverend Ron Helms officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service time. Interment will follow at Newell Presbyterian Church cemetery.
