

Betty McGinnis McLeod, age 84, of Matthews, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at Plantation Estates. She was born on October 16, 1928 in Matthews, North Carolina the daughter of the late Neely and Kate McGinnis. Betty graduated from Erskine College with a degree in home economics. After graduation, she worked for Carolina Power and Light Company demonstrating appliances. After many years as a homemaker, she taught preschool at Sardis Presbyterian Church. She was a lifelong member at Sardis Presbyterian Church where she taught many years of Sunday school prior to being a member of the Miller Peoples Sunday School class. Betty enjoyed many years square dancing with The Sardis Stars, gardening and canning, and spending time at the beach.
Betty is preceded in death by her loving husband of over 40 years, Max Earl McLeod, Sr. She is survived by her son, Max E. McLeod, Jr. and his wife Cindy; cousin, Judy Drake (Leighton) and their children Tom and Cheryl and families; a cousin, LuAnn Elliott (Ron) and their daughter Katie, who was like a granddaughter to Betty. She is also survived by several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins and their respected families.
Betty had such a loving spirit and was truly loved by everyone. Her smile and chuckle of a laugh gave comfort to her family and friends over many years.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 4:00 pm on Thursday, June 6, 2013 in the sanctuary at Sardis Presbyterian Church with Dr. Reverend J. Thomas Kort officiating and Dr. Reverend Jane Fobel assisting. Visitation will follow the service in the fellowship hall at the church. Interment will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, June 6, 2013 in the Sardis Presbyterian Church Cemetery. A separate celebration of Betty’s life will be held in the auditorium of Plantation Estates on Friday, June 7, 2013 at 2:00 PM with the chaplain of Plantation Estates, Larry Watts officiating.
The family would like to express their sincerest appreciation and thanksgiving for the compassionate care, love and support from the staff at Plantation Estates, especially the staff at Oak Bridge Terrace and Willow Brook Court. Also a special thank you to the staff at Hospice who looked after Betty in her final days, especially Camille.
