Mr. Chappell, 65, of Charlotte, NC, passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at Presbyterian Hospital with his family by his side.
He was born April 5, 1946 in Charlotte, North Carolina, one of three children to the late William Harlon Chappell and Ruth Kathleen Pope Chappell. Bobby worked as a textile engraver at Consolidated Engravers for many years and later worked with a friend and owner, Mike Thomas, at AAA Glass and Door.
Paw Paw, as he was affectionately known to his family and neighbors, collected knives and taught all the grandchildren how to wittle and make wooden items. He was a self made handyman who built and repaired things in his garage from bicycles, arts and crafts, dolls, including a big tree swing which his family still uses it to this day. No one could out do him on teaching how to ride a bicycle, drive a car, skate, garden or cut grass.
Bobby coached little league ball teams and taught them to have a good spirit and to pray before each game. He served as 2nd baseman for a softball team for the Baptist Church where he would take his own children to the games for family outings to meet other Christians.
He loved serving the Lord as a Deacon and attended Mercy Baptist Church, where he loved helping in all activities. His favorite saying was, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and He shall direct your paths”.
