

Mr. Bobby W. Johnston, 80, formerly of Charlotte, passed away at his home in Cana, Virginia on March 14, 2015. He was born November 14, 1934, the son of the late Wilson W. Johnston and Matie Scercy Johnston, and was married to Louise Blackwell Johnston on October 26, 1956. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Louise B. Johnston, his wife of 32 years; by his companion of 20 years, Carolyn S. Williamson; and by his nephew, Anthony (Tony) Bond.
He is survived by his son, Bobby W. Johnston, Jr. and his wife Elizabeth of Gainesville, Virginia; by his daughter, Christina J. Smith and her husband Michael of Cumming, Georgia; and by his sister, Kay J. Johns of Charlotte, NC. Also surviving Mr. Johnston are his grandchildren, Amber Norris and her husband Tim, Ryan W. Johnston, Mark W. Johnston, Sierra M. Smith and Trevor M. Smith; two great-granddaughters Aubrey and Sutton Norris; his nephew, James Bond and his wife Betty; and 4 great-nieces.
Bob graduated from East Mecklenburg High School in 1953 where he excelled in football and baseball. Bob went on to pitch for the NY Yankee's Farm Team. Afterwards, he received a degree from IBM Technical School. Bob was very much involved in youth baseball, coaching from Little League to American Legion. His working career included Pic N Pay, Inc. in Matthews and Tweeds, Inc. in Virginia. He was an avid hunter and loved the mountains. Bob truly appreciated all the love and support from his neighbors, friends, caregivers and family.
Friends are cordially invited to a service celebrating Bob’s life in the Charlotte Chapel of McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park on Saturday March 21, 2015 at Noon with Chaplain Jerry Keegan officiating. A time of fellowship with the family will be observed from eleven o’clock until Noon, prior to the Service. Following the Service of Interment at Sharon Memorial Park, a reception will be held in the Dining Parlor of McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park, located at 5716 Monroe Road Charlotte, NC 28212.
