Bob was born September 23, 1935, in Walters, Oklahoma. His family migrated to California after the severe drought in the southern plains gave rise to the “Dust Bowl.” Bob proudly served in the Navy in the Korean War, and after returning home from war, he attended night school at a local community college to become an electrician.
In 1953, he married his sweetheart Joan Pope, and they had two children, Sherry Pope and Bobby Pope. Bob started his own electrical business, and he and Joan enjoyed traveling in their Bluebird motorhome – “The Pope’s Pad” - sometimes to take on electrical projects, and other times to just enjoy RV travel with good friends. Bob also obtained his pilot license and enjoyed flying his own plane. Joan and Bob retired in South Carolina, and after Joan passed away, Bob moved to Arkansas to be closer to family. Bob enjoyed being around family and friends, traveling, playing cards and dominos, and reading books.
Bob is survived by his three grandchildren and their spouses, Rob Willard (Rick McDermott), Nichole Pope (Michael Pope), and Jeremy Pope (Jennifer Pope), seven great grandchildren, and three great, great grandchildren.
His service will be held on October 20, 2023, at 11:00 am., at Lakeview Memorial Garden in York, SC.
