Buddy was born May 19th, 1946, in Winnsboro, SC a son of the late Boykin English Smith Sr. and Emma Robinson Smith. He served a tour of active duty in the United States Army from 1964-1971. On the day he returned from an overseas tour in 1967, Buddy met his wife, Mary. Following the army, Buddy worked for Safety-Kleen for over 25 years retiring as the Vice President of Marketing.
Buddy was a man of intense faith, a devoted husband to his wife of 56 years, Mary (Horn), and a dedicated father to his two daughters Tena Adams and Lisa Haigler. As a grandfather, Buddy took pride in his consistent presence in each of his six grandchildren's lives. He spent countless hours attending sports games, recitals, graduations, and various other events often as either coach or consistent volunteer for the team that his grandchild was on. He even coined the phrase, “scooterpootin” to describe his weekend shopping trips with his grandchildren, often buying them the things they were not typically allowed to have. He poured all of himself into the development and enrichment of his family, sharing his knowledge, moral guidance, and endless sense of humor leaving everlasting memories in each of their minds.
Over the last two years, Buddy embraced the role of great-grandfather, welcoming Gianna Grace Neal (Tim and Christianna) and KJ Kienzle (Meghan and Kayden) into the family. Although fleeting, Buddy left lasting memories in their hearts and showered them with all his love with the time that he spent with them.
Buddy is survived by his wife Mary, his loving children Tena and Lisa (Johnny), his grandchildren Tim Neal (Christianna), Taylor Neal (Mollie), Graham Adams, Meghan Kienzle (Kaden), Makayla Starnes (Dallas), and Smith Haigler, and his great-grandchildren Gianna Neal and KJ Kienzle. He is remembered fondly by his siblings Patsy Branham and Minnie Cail (Leonard), his extended family, and countless friends who were touched by his kindness, character, and generosity.
Buddy is preceded in death by his parents, Emma and Boykin Sr., his sister Vanetti Fuller and his brother William “Bill” Smith.
