

He graduated from Fishburne Military Academy in 1948 and graduated from The University of Washington with a BBA. He met D’Arlene, his wife of 68 years, at the university. They married in 1952 and had two children, Michael and Lisa.
Carey served in the U.S. Navy actively for three years and retired from the Naval Reserves in 1977. He worked at the family business, Pound & Moore, Co. for 26 years, then sold accounting services and later went into real estate.
He enjoyed making and flying balsam wood gliders, engaging in remodeling projects, and listening to jazz on his hi-fi system. He was an avid reader and frequented the Myers Park branch. He supported local diners for lunch almost every day and could live off Bojangles sausage biscuits for breakfast almost daily. Carey always promoted doing the right thing for others.
Carey was a long time member of Covenant Presbyterian Church where he served as an Usher.
He is survived by his two children, Michael Carey Pound (Debra) of Charlotte and Lisa Pound Edwards of Green Sea, SC, and four grandchildren: Matthew, Jason and Natalie Pound, and Dylan Edwards.
He was preceded in death by his wife, D’Arlene D.Pound; two brothers, Ralston M. Pound and James E. Pound; and a sister, Frances Henry.
A service by the graveside will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at Evergreen Cemetery.
