

He was born March 24, 1931 in Charlotte, NC to Alfred and Myrtle Blackwelder Nance.
Carl worked for Duke Power for 34 years and retired in 1986. He was extremely involved in his community. He was a volunteer with the Derita Fire Department from 1956 – 1997. He attended Hutchinson Ave. Baptist and then later became a member of Derita Baptist Church and served them in many capacities over the years. He was a deacon, and lead the NC Baptist Men’s Region 6 Disaster Relief Crew helping people all over the world. He helped build ramps for families through Love INC for over 10 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Betty Garner Nance, his son Terry Nance (Karen), his two daughters, Darlene Ward (Roger), Jackie Stilwell; his two brothers, Buford Nance, Bobby Nance all of Charlotte; his two sisters, Jeanette Yost of York, SC, Becky Seymore of Charlotte, NC; his three grandchildren Amanda Ward, Cody and Hunter Stilwell and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three brothers, Alfred, Fred and Walter Nance.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Sunday, October 31, 2010 in McEwen Funeral Service Derita Chapel 6300 Mallard Creek Road, and again from 12:00 PM until the funeral hour beginning at 1:00 PM, Monday, November 1, 2010 in Derita Baptist Church 2835 W Sugar Creek Rd, Charlotte, NC. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens.
