

She was born January 19, 1936 in Brownville Junction, Maine and grew up in Spencer, North Carolina. She was a 1954 graduate of Spencer High School and a 1958 graduate of East Carolina College in Greenville, North Carolina.
Mrs. Vance has been a member of Calvary Church since 1979 where she participated in Bible studies and taught in the Children’s Summer Fun program. Much loved by her students and staff, she enjoyed teaching kindergarten and multi-cultural classes for 30 years at Calvary Child Development Center. She retired in 2009.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Loudon Hay and Viola Crowe Hay; and sisters, Evelyn Hay Culton, Jean Hay Williams and Ruth Hay McNabb.
Survivors are her husband Wilfred H. Vance, daughters Elizabeth Vance Whitley, Jane C. Vance and son Keith T. Vance all of Charlotte; sister Margaret H. McKenzie of Greensboro, North Carolina; brother James H Hay and wife Shirley of Winston Salem, North Carolina; brother-in-law Ezra H Williams of Kingsport, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Megan Whitley Scribner and husband Noah of Vilseck, Germany, Rachel C. Whitley, Holden C. Vance and Beckett C. Vance all of Charlotte; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Calvary Church on Saturday, September 12 from 3 to 4 pm. The Funeral Service will be at 4 pm with Dr. John Hay Munro officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Magnolia Memorial Gardens.
