Dr. Charles Jay Maurer was born in San Francisco, CA on November 6, 1932. He earned his doctorate in Chemical Engineering at the University of Washington. In 1968 he moved his family to Charlotte, NC, where he began working for Celanese’s fiver industry. He excelled at his work and developed 4 patents during his career with Celanese.
He loved the arts, especially music. His favorite show was the Lawrence Welk show and he and his wife attended many musical events in Brevard, NC during the summers. He was also a big Charlotte Hornets Fan. He was a devoted Christian and attended Christ Covenant Church for many years with his wife, Shirley.
He was married to Shirley Maurer for 64 years. She preceded him in death in 2022. Charles died on August 23, 2024. He is survived by a daughter, Sandra Meacham, (Richard T. Meacham) of Fort Mill. His grandchildren and great grandchildren are Julie Miner (Greg Miner) of Greenwood, SC, parents of Alex Miner and Logan Miner; Richard L. Meacham of Charlotte, NC who is the father of Caitlyn Wood (Jacob Wood) and Thomas Meacham; Steven Meacham who is the father of Luke Meacham and Brooklyn Meacham.
