Sunday, May 12, 2024, in the phenomenal care of Atrium Health Hospice & Palliative Care in Kannapolis. Special thanks to the staff of Hospice for their care and support. Extended thanks to her longtime friend Randy Dwyer for his continuous support and care for her in life, as well as to all of Cheryl’s friends and family who had helped her in life.
Cheryl was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on September 29, 1956 to the late John Franklin
Gamble and Betty Jean (Shook) Gamble. After graduating from South Mecklenburg High
School in 1974, she first pursued higher education at Central Piedmont CC, later transferring to UNC Charlotte then finally transferring to UNC Chapel Hill where she graduated in 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts. After graduating from Chapel Hill, she first worked for her uncle Morris in food brokerage then later joined her father and brother in operating the newly founded Gamble Pallet Company in Charlotte. Cheryl had been CEO of the family business for the past forty plus years.
She was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer around 2009 and in an act of bravery and will to continue on, agreed to undergo an intense surgery known as a Whipple procedure to remove the cancer. She lived through the surgery, recovered and continued on working at Gamble Pallet. She helped her son Matthew through school and continued to give advice and lecture those around her, whether they asked for it or not. She would fight many other health related battles throughout the rest of her life, yet always came out of those battles tired but on top. She showcased great perseverance and tenacity despite her many battles and challenges which continues to astound many of her friends and family after her passing.
Cheryl is preceded in death by her father John F. Gamble and mother Betty J. (Shook) Gamble, Uncle Morris Gamble and Aunt Louise (Aldridge) Gamble; as well as Uncle Ronald “Ronnie” Shook. Oh, the conversations they must be having!
Cheryl is survived by her son, Matthew J. Gamble, brother John Gamble, Jr; sister Donna Gamble; her niece Katherine (Gamble-Thorne) Rowland and husband Martin Rowland and nephew Aaron Thorne and wife Elizabeth Thorne. Also by grandniece Tallulah Rowland and grandnephew Eldric Thorne.
