He was a graduate of Bentonville High School in Arkansas. He was a very successful real estate broker, winning many Best Salesman Awards and started his own business, Premiere Estates. He also worked on oil rigs in West Texas and Freightliner Trucking in Mt. Holly, NC.
Scott loved music, football and golf. He taught himself how to play the guitar. His favorite songs were Dust in the Wind by Kansas, Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin, along with music by Chuck Berry and Stevie Ray Vaughan.
He is survived by his mother, Judy Reid of Concord and his father, Joseph Duncan Abernathy of Mt. Holly; sister, Kimberly Podwik of Coral Springs, FL; children, Taylor Abernathy, Tarren Hayes and Hayden Abernathy; grandchildren, Soleil Hayes, Marley Hayes and Hayden Jaxx Abernathy; nephews, Kyle Podwika and Christian Podwika of Florida.
A memorial service for Scott will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at 3:00 pm in the chapel of McEwen Funerals and Cremations at Forest Lawn West, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC. Condolences may be submitted at www.forestlawnwest.com
