

On January 8, 1940, David “Peter” Butler was born in Ridgeway, SC, to the late Thomas and Mary Lamar Butler. He was the sixth child in a family of nine children. His siblings preceding him in death are Mary Helen, Virginia, Minnie, Joe, Thomas and Clarence.
He departed this life on March 27, 2016 at Charlotte Health and Rehabilitation Center. Peter received his early education in the Fairfield County school system. At an early age, he accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized in Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Ridgeway, South Carolina.
On June 28, 1963, he was joined in Holy Matrimony to Lizzie Dobbs, and into this union, two children were born. He joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church after moving to Charlotte. They were married for 52 years.
Peter led a full life after retirement, working in his vegetable garden and his lawnmower shop. He was always willing and eager to help his fellow man any way he could. Besides their work together, Lizzie was a devoted and loving caregiver all through his long illness. Throughout his life, Peter was a devoted husband and father. During his healthier years, his musical talents extended to the community; singing with hymn choir at Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
In addition to his beloved wife of 52 years, Lizzie, Peter leaves to mourn, sister, Ella Fuller, of Charlotte, NC; brother, Herbert Butler (Lovetta) of Ridegeway, SC; daughters, Mary Ann Robertson, of Columbia, SC, and Diane Walston, of Dallas, TX; son, David Butler, Jr, (April), of Orange, NJ; two granddaughters and two great granddaughters. Also, nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be at 12:30pm, Saturday, April 2, 2016, in the Paul Helton Chapel at Forest Lawn West. Interment will take place at Forest Lawn West Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Offer condolences through Forestlawnwest.com.
