David is survived by his loving wife, Linda Westerfield; his two daughters Heather Ehle and Gretchen Zimmer (Michael); his six grandchildren Luke and Carly Elgin, Will Zimmer, Abon, Iva, and Alex Schwery; and two great grandchildren Leo Schwery and Khalik Zimmer; as well as his “right arm” in his businesses and personal life, April Enos.
He was born December 16, 1940 in Asheville, NC to parents John and Gladys (Starnes) Ehle and raised by his nanny, Oscar Mae Dixon, who instilled in him a great love for the Bible and gave him the name “Debo”, which he carried throughout his life – personally and in his businesses.
After attending various colleges, he graduated from UNC – Asheville. He also proudly served in the United States Air Force for three years where he was stationed in Turkey, after which he married his high school sweetheart, Betty (better known as Mike), who predeceased him in death.
In his life, David was dearly loved and respected as a kind and generous “bigger than life” man. He was a dedicated and devoted duplicate bridge player and sports enthusiast. He enjoyed “singing” with his dogs and loved all things pork.
A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, December 16th at 1 PM at McEwen Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road in Charlotte.
