Born in Charlotte, NC, he was the son of James E. Sims and Grace Covington McElduff. He was preceded in death by his father, James E. Sims, his mother, Grace Covington McElduff, his stepfather, James E. McElduff, and his brother, Steve McElduff.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Judith (Judy) Graham Sims; his brother Jimmy McElduff (Libby); his sister Melanie McElduff Flow; as well as many nieces and nephews.
David graduated from Central High School in 1957 and spent five years working at Knight Ridder Newspaper before joining the family business, International Steel Erectors, where he retired in 2004.
In 1962, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served faithfully and honorably in the North Carolina Air National Guard until he retired as Master Sergeant in 1995.
A passionate history enthusiast, David loved to travel, read, and spend time socializing with family and friends.
