August 17, 1951 – October 24, 2024
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Deborah Pugh Miller, beloved wife, mother, grandmother (DeDe), mother-in-law and cherished friend. She left this world peacefully on October 24, 2024 surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in Asheville and raised in Thomasville, Debbie was a lifelong Girl Scout. She attended Meredith College, where she developed a passion for learning. Debbie moved to Charlotte in 1987 with her family. A dedicated teacher and tutor of algebra, she spent her career inspiring young minds, sharing not only her deep knowledge but also her immense wisdom, patience and sarcasm. She had a remarkable gift for making even the most complex subjects understandable, fostering a love of learning in her students.
Debbie was married to her beloved husband, Harry (Terry), for 49 wonderful years before his passing two years ago. Together they had two children, David and Julia, rescued many dogs and built a life filled with love, laughter and lasting memories. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love and devotion and they now reunite in peace.
Beyond her love for her family Debbie found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. She was a lover of music and found solace at the beach, where the ocean always brought her peace. She had a passion for cooking, sharing her culinary delights with family and friends and her intricate needlepoint and knitting creations were treasured by many.
Above all, Debbie was a loving and selfless woman. Her devotion to her family was unparalleled and she embodied what it meant to be the best wife, mother, mother-in-law and “DeDe” to her grandchildren. She was always there with open arms, offering unconditional love, wisdom and support. Her home was a haven of warmth and she had an uncanny ability to make everyone feel cherished and welcome.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to The Sanctuary at Stonehaven for their unwavering love, support and exceptional care for Debbie during her time there. The family would also like to thank her team of dedicated therapists from Carolina Therapeutics and Next Dimension Rehab for their dedication and the joy they brought to her life.
She is lovingly remembered by her son, David, and daughter-in-law, Gloria, along with her daughter, Julia, and son-in-law, Joe. Her cherished grandchildren, Camryn, Michaela, Mackenzie, Madison and Bradley were her pride and joy. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Terry, her beloved parents, Jacob and Ruth, her brother, Richard, and many dear dogs who brought her joy throughout her life. Her legacy of love and warmth will be carried on by those who knew and adored her.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Hearts with Hands or Brother Wolf Animal Rescue, supporting relief efforts in Western NC, a place always close to Debbie's heart.
