Denny Lee Turner

Denny was born to Burley and Anna Turner on April 5, 1940 in Winston-Salem, NC. He received his undergraduate degree from Wake Forest University and his divinity degree from Southeastern Seminary in Wake Forest, NC. He married Linda Gray Barbour in Raleigh, North Carolina on July 23, 1966. Denny enjoyed thirty-seven years as Minister of Music with loving congregations at Becks Baptist Church, Winston-Salem; Walnut Street Baptist Church, Winter Park, Florida; Grace Baptist Church, Durham; and, finally, Oakhurst Baptist Church, Charlotte, from where he retired after nearly 28 years of devoted service.

He is preceded in death by his love Linda, as well as his parents. He is survived by two sons Jonathan and his wife Laura of Concord, Joel and his wife Lisa of Monroe, GA; grandchildren Corey, Cadee, Carrie, Ashlyn, and Jared; sister Glenda Turner of Gastonia; brother-in-law Eric Dean of Clayton; two nieces, Erika Dean and Emily Dean Shirley; great nephews, Ethan and Jaxon; and special friends Laura Costas and Ruth Waggoner of Gastonia, and Geneva and Wayne Beachum of Charlotte.

Funeral Services will be held 1:00PM Friday, February 24, 2017 at Pitts Baptist Church, 140 Pitts School Rd NW, Concord, NC 28027 with Rev. Scott Davis of Concord, and Rev. Bill Wright of Kentucky officiating. Visitation with the family will immediately follow the service from 2:00-5:00PM. The family will have a private burial at Sharon Memorial Gardens on Saturday. Arrangements are under the direction of McEwen Funeral Services, Charlotte, NC.
