

Diane Lanier Blackwelder, 82, of Charlotte, died peacefully on July 14, 2023. She was born March 20, 1941 to Rubye and Felton Lanier in Statesboro, GA. She attended Central High School in Charlotte where she played basketball and she attended High Point College. She married the love of her life, Arthur (Poochie) Blackwelder. They raised three children together.
Diane never missed a sporting event of one of her children and has attended many events of her grandchildren. She was deeply involved with Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. After raising her children, Diane returned to the workforce at Bank of America until she retired.
She enjoyed singing in the choir at Westover Hills Presbyterian Church where she was also an elder, Bethlehem Methodist Church in Monroe, and Robinson Presbyterian Church. She also performed in Listen and Remember Waxhaws Colonial History play. She enjoyed reconnecting with the 1959 Central High School Reunion group. She also enjoyed watching the Charlotte Hornets and the Atlanta Braves and spending time with her grandchildren. When Diane was asked, what is the thing that you are most proud of, she replied, “My children”.
She is survived by her daughter, Marcia Tomkinson (David); grandchildren, Matthew and Josh Tomkinson; Andrew (Heather), Anna (Marshall), Blake (Ashley); Kirby and Amanda Blackwelder; and six great grandchildren. Sister, Sharon Burleson; brother, Rodney Lanier (Valerie), and nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Blackwelder and sons, David Blackwelder and Tom Blackwelder.
Celebration of Life will be held at McEwen Funeral Service located at 5716 Monroe Road in Charlotte on Friday, July 21, 2023. Visitation at 10:00 AM. Service at 11:00 AM followed by a graveside committal at Sharon Memorial Park.
