

Dinos Athanas, 87, died Sunday Oct 29th 2017 at Walton Wood assisted living center. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Athanas and his two sons Evan Athanas (Emily) and Michael Athanas (Valerie) and his 5 grandchildren, Lillian, Austin, Ella, Kostas and Sia.
Dinos was born in Drama Greece in 1930 and attended Queens University in Kingston, Ontario where he received a degree in Engineering. He later received a Masters of Industrial relations from St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Canada.
He spent his entire career in tire manufacturing, first with BF Goodrich and later with Continental Tire Corporation. He move to Charlotte NC in 1967 and was a member of the team that opened the General Tire manufacturing facility in 1968. He retired in 1995 and spent his retirement traveling and mentoring young people and tending to his extended family. He was a faithful and loyal friend to many and was a Member of the Holy Trinity Orthodox Church. He will be remembered as a dedicated family man who loved his sons and grandchildren. A service of celebration of Dinos' life will be Thursday evening from 4pm to 6pm on Thursday November 2 and a funeral service at 10:30 Friday November 3 at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 600 East Boulevard Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203.
