He attended West Mecklenburg High School and graduated from CPCC with two Associates Degrees. He was employed for 50 plus years in Steel Erection Industry. One of his proudest accomplishments was a 37 year successful recovery from Opiate addiction. He loved mentoring young people locally and in other countries.
Donnie enjoyed spending time with his beloved Boxers, being outdoors helping his neighbors, watching his favorite teams: the New York Yankees and the Duke Blue Devils; most of all, he cherished his family.
Survivors include his brother, Dean (Amy) Benson; nephew, Tyler Benson; life-long companion, Melissa Benson; his fur baby, Sweet Pea; along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents; Donnie was preceded in death by two of his brothers, Bobby Renegar and Kenneth Benson.
