Donald Collins

Charlotte - Donald Ervin Collins, 64, died of a heart attack in Ensenada, Mexico, on December 28, 2016. He was president and CEO of Global Network, Inc. of Charlotte, NC. Don was born in Greenville, SC. Don was the son of the late Marian Frances Johnson and Rufus Calhoun Collins, Jr. Maternal grandparents were Helen Stipe Johnson and S.M. Johnson of Atlanta, GA. Paternal grandparents were Lois Waldrop Collins and Rufus Calhoun Collins, Sr. of Greenville, SC.

He is survived by siblings Dana M. Collins, sister; brothers, David M. Collins (Olivia), Douglas N. Collins (Phyllis); nephew, D. Brent Collins (Megan); nieces, Carolyn C. Thompson (Kyle and son, Tyler) and Sidney F. Collins. He is predeceased by a brother, Rufus Calhoun Collins, III.

Don graduated from Riverside Military Academy and attended Gardner-Webb University. Don worked in the insurance industry and was affiliated with John Hancock Insurance, Northwestern Life Insurance, and Royal Insurance. His hobbies included travel, horticulture, cooking and boating, which was his most favorite. Don had restored several antique wood boats over the years. He lived on Lake Wylie where he had many neighbors and friends.

Don loved people and animals, and he never met a stranger. He always maintained a positive outlook on life.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 5th at Harry & Bryant, 500 Providence Road, Charlotte. Interment will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Greenville, SC.
