Donald Grey Dennis

Mr. Dennis, age 73, of Charlotte, died Monday, August 30, 2010 at his residence. Born January 12, 1937 in Kannapolis, he was the only child born to the late Edward Gray Dennis and Lila Linker Dennis. He was a graduate of Winecoff High School. Mr. Dennis retired as a Charlotte Police Officer in 1979 after 20 years of service. He retired from the NC Air National Guard in 1997 after 42 years of service where he enjoyed being a Santa Claus Helper for many holiday seasons. Mr. Dennis was an avid bowler and a former member of the Charlotte Bowling Association.

The service to celebrate the life of Donald Grey Dennis will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, September 2, 2010 at Hickory Grove Baptist Church - Main Campus with The Reverend John Harrill, officiating. A private graveside service will follow at 1:30 PM in Unity United Methodist Church Cemetery - Kannapolis. The family will receive friends 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM Wednesday at McEwen Funeral Service - Derita Chapel.

Survivors include five children, Ron Dennis and his wife, Leigh Anne, Kathy Day and her husband, Scott, Sherry Davis, Keith Dennis and Suzy Dennis; six grandchildren; a great grandson; stepmother, Margie Dennis; and three step sisters, Barlene Lewis, Brenda Black and Sylvia Ashby.
