Donna Sue Spurlock, 61, of Charlotte, passed away peacefully on August 14th after a long courageous battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her father, Bill Smith and mother, Martha Sue Walters and a step-father, William B. Walters. Donna was born in Gastonia on June 8, 1951. She had many ups and downs in her life and always took them in stride saying, “God doesn’t give you more than you can bear.”
No one was a stranger to Donna; she remained friends with people from her childhood and made many new ones along the way. Donna was a patient, kind, selfless, compassionate and loving person, always putting other’s needs before her own. She was always there to listen, guide and support her friends, seeing the good in everyone. She was never afraid to stop and help a stranger in need on the street. She loved life’s beauty that surrounded her and never took anything for granted. She had an intense love for the beach, dancing, decorating their beautiful home and the gorgeous garden in her backyard that she and her husband of 29 years worked so hard on together.
She retired from National Welders as the Safety Director after 25 years of devoted service and continued to work for the family as Administrator of the Estate for Mr. & Mrs. James A. Turner and for their daughter, Judy Turner Carpenter as the Administrator Manager of Lucky Clay's Farms.
Her love of her family was extraordinary as she is survived by her husband Ralph Spurlock, who wishes to say goodbye to Donna, “Our home was a beautiful home, now it is a home full of beautiful memories”; her daughter Kerie E. Smith and 2 grandchildren that she adored Victoria E. Cole and Dawson B. Smith; a brother, James Michael Smith; a step-daughter, Ashley Stiles; her husband, Warren Stiles and their son, Parker.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. “For what we do for Ourselves dies with us and what we do for others remains and is immortal.” – Albert Pike. That is her legacy and she will pass it on.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 19 from 1 to 2 pm at McEwen Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Rd., Charlotte followed by a Celebration of Life service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Donna’s memory to Charlotte Rescue Mission,

And, she would ask you to do something special for someone, to lift them up and give them hope. Online condolences may be left at www.McEwenPinevilleChapel.com
