She was the only daughter of Johann and Ida Paul Schneiderat, both born outside of Germany, in Lithuania and Russia respectively. Doris had a brother who passed away many years ago. She does not leave any family behind, but a few dear friends, and is the last of her line.
Doris was born and raised in East Prussia, Germany, during the Hitler regime. Her parents were evacuated during WWII to Saxonia and then Bavaria, while she herself was serving time in the German Air Force as a radio operator.
After the war, in 1953, Doris emigrated to Toronto, Canada and then moved to New York City where she worked as a bookkeeper-secretary. On one of her visits to Germany in 1972, she met and married Herbert L. Cagle from Jasper, GA, who at the time was serving in the US Army. While stationed at ROTC in Davidson College, NC, Doris joined him in 1978 and moved to Charlotte.
Doris found employment with Temple Israel, one of the largest synagogues in the Carolinas, and served them as Bookkeeper and Controller for 26 years, retiring in 2004.
