

Born October 17, 1924 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of Samuel and Minnie Lewis Scheier. Doris married Sydney Litman in January of 1943. She had her first child, Madeline in October 1943, while Sydney was serving in the Army during WWII. Over the next 11 years she had another daughter, Maxine, and a son, David.
Doris was a devoted mother, wife and homemaker. She also worked part time in her husband’s business for many years.
After Sydney died in 1996, she married Jack Matisoff. She had 20 very beautiful loving years with Jack until his passing in 2016. She was a loving stepmom to Jack’s two daughters, Sandy and Linda, and a very engaged and caring grandmother to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Doris will be remembered by everyone she touched as a tremendously loving, accepting, and truly compassionate and caring person.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Selma Asher, her first husband Sydney Litman and her second husband Jack Matisoff. She is survived by her three children, Madeline Litman (Pam Lassiter) of Charlotte, NC, Maxine Litman of Port Hueneme, CA, and David Litman (Rose Dahmen) of Denver, Colorado. She is also survived by her two stepchildren, Sandy Benney (Norman) and Linda Dugan (Dennis). She is also survived by three nephews and their families, as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial in celebration of Doris’ life will be held at Riderwood Village Retirement Community in Silver Spring MD, in the Chesapeake Room at Montgomery Station on Sunday, January 14th at 3:00 p.m.
Another memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, January 19th, at Sunrise on Providence Assisted Living, 5114 Providence Road in Charlotte, NC.
