Dorothy was born on October 14, 1923 and grew up in St. Landry, LA. The only daughter of the late Edward and Lear (Bowman) Weber. At the age of 17, she moved to Alexandria where she met her future husband, Dennis Cassel. Dennis became a soldier in the Army 3 months before they married and was deployed to WWII 3 months after they were married. Once Dennis returned from service 3 years later, they moved to Dallas, TX, where he attended university and where their first two children were born... Denise and Mike. Then they moved to Houston where Dennis worked for Crouse Hinds and began to be transferred with his company to several cities and states. Dorothy faithfully supported and followed Dennis to Beaumont,TX, Shreveport, LA, where her 3rd child, Ron, was born, then to Denham Springs, Baton Rouge, Tampa, FL, and finally Charlotte where Dennis retired and the family finally settled. Dorothy had various employment during this time of moving along with raising their children. She was always actively involved in their local church, Sunday School, WMU, Prayer Meetings, and all other activities and outreaches of each church they attended. She also enjoyed reading, playing Canasta and Uno, doing crossword puzzles, eating chocolate and spending time with her friends. Dorothy always cared about her appearance and always looked “like a million bucks” as her son in law would lovingly say... even when she lost her vision to Macular Degeneration many years before passing. But again, her greatest love and commitment was to her church, including the last church she attended...Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church. The Lord was always her shepherd.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Dennis K. Cassel, and her brother, Rev. Jaroy Weber.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her love and memory, her daughter, Denise Kaufman Amat (husband, Henry) of Boone, her son, Michael Dennis Cassel (wife, Cheryl) of Advance, and her son, Ronald Dean Cassel of Charlotte. Grandchildren Kristofer Kaufman of Boise, ID, Kenny Kaufman (wife, Laura) of Boone and their children, Kayden and Caroline. Stephen Cassel of Winston Salem and Scott Cassel (wife, Courtney) of Winston Salem and their children, Ben and Kaia, and Step Grandson Mark Amat (wife,Lisa) of Winter Garden, FL, and their children Aaron and Courtney.
