Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Evelyn Davis (nee Abernathy), age 96 of Mooresville, NC went to meet her Heavenly Father on July 29 at 12:18 a.m. Mrs. Davis was born on February 7, 1926 in Belmont, NC. She was the first-born and daughter of the late Joel “Lee” and Carma Abernathy (nee Arrowood). Mrs. Davis was a graduate of Berryhill High School and co-founder of The Charlotte Art League. She was a talented artist and horticulturalist. She was known for her gorgeous lifelike floral and landscape paintings as well as her beautiful flower gardens, especially her beloved rose garden, which received many compliments and was enjoyed by many. Dorothy also served as a wedding planner where she was able to apply her accomplished skills making wedding dresses, delicious wedding cakes and gorgeous wedding flower arrangements. She loved to cook wonderful meals for her family and her delicious roast beef dinners will be missed by all and could never be duplicated. She will be remembered as a faithful and loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Friend. She was a member of Mulberry Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School Teacher and was very involved with her church family. Dorothy loved to read her Bible even in her final days. She is preceded in death by her devoted husband of 54 years, Robert L. Davis, Jr.; her great- granddaughter, Kendall Davis; brothers, , Judson Abernathy, Dan Abernathy, Kenneth and Benjamin Abernathy. Dorothy is survived by her two children, Merrilyn Joyner (Robert) and Michael Davis (Vonni); five grandchildren, Dana Joyner, Marc Joyner (Samantha), Jeremy Davis (Meredith), Matthew Davis (Lindsey) and Benjamin Davis (Mollye) and great-grandchildren, Mallory, Bailey, Christian, Peyton, Wyatt, Eli, Ryan and Charlotte. She is also survived by her sister, Sue Mercer (Jack) and brothers, Joe Abernathy (Kay) and David Abernathy (Susan). Dorothy loved all of her family very much. Special thanks to her prior caregiver, Lori Wilson; her caregivers at Senior Care of the Carolinas (especially Vicki, Emily and Christa) and the wonderful caring staff of Hospice of Iredell County (especially Ginny and Kyle), who provided comfort and loving care to her and her family in her final days. Due to COVID 19, masks are required inside unless eating, drinking. Funeral Service for Dorothy will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at Forest Lawn West Funeral & Cremation Service, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC. Visitation 12 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will take place at the funeral home immediately following the burial. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at for the Davis family.
