Dorothy “Dot” Whitley Robinson, 92, died April 4, 2013. A native of Charlotte, Dorothy was born March 20, 1921 in Charlotte to the late Ralph Knox Robinson and Marie Whitley Robinson and was a descendant of pioneer Mecklenburg settlers. She was a graduate of Derita High School, Queens College and Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing.
After graduating from Queens, Dorothy taught in Steele Creek Elementary School. Following graduation from Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing, she taught at the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing for many years before becoming Director of Nursing. Following early retirement from Presbyterian Hospital, Dorothy was employed by McEwen Funeral Services. She was a life-long member and elder of Sugaw Creek Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are two nephews John Knox Robinson, Jr. of Katy, Texas, Commander Whitley Hjort Robinson of the U.S. Navy; sister-in-law, Nettie Belle Hjort Robinson of Pinecrest, Florida; special cousins, Jean Robinson of Matthews, Will and Denise Dunbar of Alexandria, Virginia: two great nieces; one great nephew and several Robinson cousins.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her brother, John Knox Robinson, MD.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
