

Mrs. Grier passed away Saturday, February 21, 2015. She was born in Forest City, NC on July 18, 1938 to the late William Durham Waters and Maude Grose Waters. She was the granddaughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Olin B. Grose and Mr. & Mrs. John Smith Waters. She was a graduate of Cool Springs High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master’s degree in Elementary Education from Appalachian State University.
She taught school for twenty years beginning in Mooresville City Schools and then Myers Park Elementary School and Charlotte Latin School.
Mrs. Grier was an active member of Providence Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon, choir member and soloist, Bible moderator for the Agape Circle, various other committees and as a Moderator of Presbyterian Women. She received an honorary life membership in Presbyterian Women in 1995.
Dottie loved music and began studying piano and voice in elementary school and continued through college.
She also loved animals, playing bridge with her ladies bridge group and couples bridge group. She also enjoyed having lunch with friends, writing poetry and traveling.
Survivors include her loving husband of 50 years, Bob Grier; beloved son, Nick Grier; and beloved only sister, Nancy Waters of Lake Wales, Florida.
A service to celebrate Mrs. Grier’s life will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at Providence Presbyterian Church with Reverend Walt McCanless officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 24, from 7:00 - 9:00pm at McEwen Pineville Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Presbyterian Church, Hospice & Palliative Care, Charlotte Region, or Humane Society of Charlotte.
