Doug’s first love was his family. His home and his office are full of photos of his kids. He was an avid supporter of all their activities, and served in several coaching capaci-ties for their baseball, basketball, and football teams.
Many he coached have said he made them feel like family and inspired in them a love for the game. His message: Carry your character onto the court or field, always show-ing good sportsmanship.
Doug also loved his community, and helped New Charlotte Church Matthews (now New City Church) launch and grow. He was also instrumental in creating and building Celebrate Recovery at Forest Hill Church.
Born and raised in Asheville, NC, Doug played sports for his school teams. He re-ceived a BS in Business/Finance from Wake Forest University where he was a Sigma Chi. Doug always valued friendships made in Asheville and as a Demon Deacon.
After graduation, Doug joined Wallace Computer Services in Roanoke, VA and held a managerial position in Charlotte until AMSCO Engineering Services hired him as Director of Alliances. He then served with AT&T and Lucent Technologies in various management roles. Doug then joined Addison Whitney and soon became head of global Mergers & Acquisitions for their sister company, Stanford Keene.
In 1998, Doug co-founded DecisionPoint International, a Mergers & Acquisitions advi-sory company. He served as part of the close-knit DecisionPoint family as Managing Partner until his death.
It was important to Doug to inspire and educate upcoming graduates, so he became a passionate guest lecturer at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and UNC- Charlotte, Wake Forest University, and others.
He also served as Chairman of the Board of NC IDEA, a not-for-profit organization that serves as a catalyst for young, high-growth, technology companies in the state of North Carolina.
Doug is survived by his three beloved children, Harrison Webb Ellis - 23, Cameron Victoria Ellis - 20, Tate Douglas Ellis - 17, and his former wife, Kelly Sanniota Ellis, all of Charlotte. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Webb Walker and her husband, Howard Walker of St Petersburg, Florida along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is pre-deceased by his parents, Webb and Kathryn Ellis of Asheville, and his sister Kathy Ellis of Charlotte and Boca Grande.
