Dovey Margaret Reeves, 73, of Cornelius, North Carolina, formerly of Irmo, South Carolina, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Saturday, February 8, 2025.
Born on March 14, 1951, in Columbia, South Carolina, Dovey was the beloved daughter of Angeline Jenkins Riley and the late Archie Riley Sr. She was a devoted wife to her late husband, Donald “Donnie” Reeves, and a loving mother whose children and family were the center of her joy.
Dovey attended Lakeview High School in Columbia, South Carolina, in the 1960s before pursuing studies at Bethea’s Waverly School of Beauty Culture in the 1970s. Later, she graduated with honors from The Elite Medical Academy, earning her Certified Nursing Assistant certification in the 1990s. As a sole proprietor, she dedicated herself to caregiving, working as a nanny and providing compassionate care for Alzheimer’s patients in the Irmo, SC, area. Before her caregiving career, she was employed at Allied Chemical in Columbia, SC, and Monroe Systems in Lexington, SC.
Dovey cherished the simple pleasures of life and touched many hearts with her vibrant spirit, infectious laughter, and unwavering faith. She found joy in studying and teaching the word of Yahweh, gardening, cooking, and crocheting. Most of all, she treasured time spent with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Archie Riley Sr.; her beloved husband, Donald “Donnie” Reeves; her sister, Kathy Riley; and her stepson, Lorenzo Robinson.
Dovey’s memory will be forever cherished by her loving mother, Angeline Riley, and stepmother, Pearl Riley. She leaves behind her devoted children: Michelle (Tyrone) Boykin, Catherine (John) Davis, William (LaQuinta) Hutto II, Monica (Darryl) Buchanan, and her adopted son, David (Carla) Burton. She is also survived by her stepchildren: Samantha (Haziq) El-Amin, Raymond Robinson, and Madison (Everette) Muller.
Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Drew (Hope) Dash, Tyrone Boykin Jr., Justin Daniels, Marley Daniels, Aaron Boykin, Dove Hutto, Alex Murphy, Jasmine Hutto, Lance Murphy, Jarrett Robinson II, Dante Buchanan, Heaven Hutto, Tyler Buchanan, William Hutto III, London Hutto, Ebony (Brian) Lee, Jerrell Chambers, Alexis (Razan) Sabet, Peyton Muller, Parker Muller, Jessica Davis, Jennifer Davis, Ramsey Davis, Robert Davis, Kayla Davis, Michael Davis, and the late Krystal Davis. Dovey was also blessed with more than 20 great-grandchildren.
She is lovingly remembered by her siblings: Queen (Christopher) Olden, Archie (Alexandria) Riley Jr., Rose Geiger, Ruth (James) Ashford, Charlene Riley, Russell (Velvet) Riley, Arnold (Sandra) Riley, Donald (Melissa) Riley, Ronald (Nikki) Riley, and Lisa Riley, along with her special cousin-sister, Sarah Anderson. Dovey also leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
A private service will be held by the family, with a public celebration of life to be announced at a later date via social media.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Jabez Youth Foundation Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization that Dovey supported. Contributions toward funeral and burial expenses can also be made by contacting her children directly.
Dovey’s legacy of love, faith, and spiritual devotion will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her, many who she referred to with loveable nicknames. She will be forever loved, dearly missed, and never forgotten.
As she would lovingly say each night:
"Shalom, shalom. Infinity kisses. To our sweet Yahweh be the glory. You know the story. Our sweet Yahweh is the glory. Hallelujah. Glory be to our sweet Yahweh. Alright, alright, alright! Have a Yahweh-blessed night, and until we see each other again… LATERRRRRRR!"
