Dovie Juanita Whitefell Bailey

Juanita W. Bailey, aged 89, returned home to God on July 3, 2017. She died peacefully with family present, thanks to Levine & Dickson Hospice House at Southminster. Juanita was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, William J. Bailey, and by her brother Ernest T. Whitesell Jr. Surviving family include sister Martha Brock, children Bruce, Paul, and Becky (Ray Dooley), nephews Worth Brock and Ralph Whitesell, and nieces Kathy Starnes (Johnny) and Mary Turner (David).

Juanita was born and raised in Fort Mill S.C., daughter of Nan Erwin and Ernest Whitesell. After graduating from Winthrop College, Juanita shared her love of literature by teaching at public schools in Florida, South, and North Carolina until retirement in Charlotte.

Her life’s center was family and church, putting others’ needs before her own. Juanita’s abiding love for God, her service with the Ruth Circle and with NAMI, and her daily prayers for each member of her community continue to inspire all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held July 29, 11 am at St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Charlotte. Gifts may be offered to St. Andrews or to Levine & Dickson Hospice House.
