

Born April 13, 1939, in Kidron, Ohio, he was the son of the late Frank Bowers and Ethel Conrad Bowers. He graduated from Northwestern High School in 1958. He served the United States Army from 1962 to 1965. He worked for Ray Blough in construction in Wooster, Ohio area for 20 years until the Lord called him into missions. He joined Wycliffe Associates in 1987 and served them as a construction superintendent for 27 years. He supervised volunteers in the construction of building projects for Wycliffe Bible Translators. He supervised construction projects at the JAARS Center in Waxhaw, North Carolina; Huánuco, Peru, South America; West Chicago, Illinois; Lancaster, Pennsylvania; and Orlando, Florida. He not only did construction for his career but also built the homes that they lived in when living in Ohio and the one they live in now in North Carolina. He also enjoyed making wood items for family.
Earl was a faithful member of Pineville Church of the Nazarene. He served as an usher until his health declined. He served as youth advisor, Sunday School teacher, and church board member when he lived in Ohio.
He married his wife, the former Audrey Hines, on December 30, 1962. They served together faithfully during their 27 years of ministry with Wycliffe Associates. The Lord blessed him with 2 children, 5 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild due to be born this August. He was always willing to help his children with projects that needed to be done around their homes. He liked to brag about his grandchildren to others. He was very excited about becoming a great grandparent.
He is survived by his wife of 61 ½ years, Audrey Hines Bowers; two children Brian (Sharon) Bowers of Wooster, Ohio and Beth (Bryan) Wilhelm of Wesley Chapel, North Carolina; and five grandchildren, Kelsey Bowers of Shreve, Ohio, Caleb (Caroline Grace) Bowers of Alexandria, Virginia, Tyler Bowers of Wooster Ohio, Aubry and Brayden Wilhelm of Wesley Chapel, North Carolina; and four brothers, Wilbur Bowers, Paul (Juanita) Bowers, Jim (Judy) Bowers all of Wooster, Ohio, Duane (Janet) of Madison, Mississippi, sister-in-law Sandy Bowers of Wooster, Ohio; plus many nieces and nephews who he was known as “Uncle Piggy Tail”; as well as many church friends and friends through his time with Wycliffe.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ethel Bowers; his siblings Roy, Doyle, and Walter Bowers and Ellen Horst; his in-laws Doris, Alverda, and Thelma Bowers.
The family would like to thank the care that Wisdom Senior Care provided for Earl the past 1 ½ years. They would like to thank Kayla who helped take care of him for 16 months, and Hanna who took care of him for the past 5 weeks.
A celebration of life service for Earl will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, August 3rd, 2024 in the Sanctuary of Pineville Church of the Nazarene-8614 Pineville-Matthews Rd., Charlotte, North Carolina 28226. There will be a time of visitation with the family one hour prior to the service at 10 AM.
