Edward Clark Griffin, age 85, died Monday, December 2, 2013 at Novant Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. The son of Thomas Brice Griffin and Bertha Mae Taylor Griffin, he was born on April 19, 1928 in Union County. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Griffin founded Ed Griffin Construction and Realty in 1954, owned Ed Griffin Ford in Marshville from 1967 to 1973 and owned Hickory Speedway from 1967 to 1975. He was a charter member of East Baptist Church, former deacon of the church and had donated the land upon which the church was built. Mr. Griffin was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed collecting vintage automobiles.
A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00AM, Thursday, December 5th at East Baptist Church with Rev. Jon DeBell officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Forest Lawn East Cemetery.
Mr. Griffin is survived by his wife of sixty six years, Sadie Edwards Griffin; a son, Edward Kent Griffin, of Mint Hill; a sister, Dorothy G. Edwards, of Charlotte; a niece and a nephew.
