

Ed Chapman, 81, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on August 21, 2010 at Presbyterian Hospital-Matthews. He was born on August 31, 1928 in Asheville, NC, son of the late Clarence Benjamin and Arthella Thrash Chapman.
Ed graduated from Central High in Charlotte as an Eagle Scout before serving in the US Army during World War II, stationed in Japan. After the war, he attended Queens College & NC State University where he earned an Industrial Engineering degree. He worked for Factory Mutual Insurance Company for 39 years as a Sales Engineer, and was awarded the Salesman of the Year Award numerous times as part of the Quarter Century Club. Ed served as President of the Certified Property Casualty Underwriters Association, and retired as Senior Account Executive and District Manager of the Charlotte Office.
He enjoyed coaching baseball for many years, and was very involved in the Youth Group at Providence Baptist. He was an avid golfer who enjoyed playing on Wednesdays & Fridays at Cedarwood CC with his senior group buddies.
Mr. Chapman is survived by his wife of 49 years, Louise P. Chapman, and three sons; Ben Chapman and fiancée Angela Mills of Charlotte, Greg and Rebecca Browne of Charlotte, and Kirk and Rosalyn Browne of Birmingham, AL, as well as five grandchildren & four great-grandchildren.
Ed was preceded in death by his older brothers Clarence, Warren, and Bill Chapman and his sister Helen Randall.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, August 27, 2010 at Providence Baptist Church with the Reverend R. Alton Cadenhead officiating. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Harry & Bryant Funeral Home, 500 Providence Rd., Charlotte.
