Eleanor Ann Kalnik

She graduated from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL, with a BS in Education. Ellie taught preschool through 6th grade in Park Ridge, IL, Armonk, NY, and Charlotte.

Ellie lived in the SouthPark area for 43 years. She is survived by her children: Thomas, wife Laura, of Charlotte, and Matthew, wife Sheryl, of Pasadena, MD; grandchildren: Thomas, Allison, Lisa, and May; sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Bill Neufeldt of Mount Prospect, IL; niece Susan Borowski, nephew David Neufeldt, their spouses and children; and was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew, and her son, Christopher.

After retiring as Principal of Charlotte Lutheran School at Ascension Lutheran Church in 1987, Ellie continued to be involved in her church. She became a Stephen Minister and Leader. She had a caring heart and related to people in times of need, listening to their feelings and providing sincere comfort and encouragement. Other church activities included Altar Guild, Prayer Team, Board of Caring Ministry, St. Monica Circle. She also delivered Friendship Trays.

During their 63 years of marriage, Ellie and Andy enjoyed traveling across the US and abroad. She had wonderful memories of the sights and people in 18 countries.

Ellie loved gardening especially enjoying Spring and the glorious blossoming shrubs and trees planting many dogwoods and azaleas over the years.

A memorial service will be held at Ascension Lutheran Church, 1225 E. Morehead Street, Charlotte, NC on March 26, 2022, at 2 PM. The family will receive visitors at the church before the service starting at 1 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Ascension Lutheran Church.
